In general, the overall width of the squat rack is determined by the following factors:

1) The inner dimension of a standard Olympic barbell.
– the total length of the gripping part (the dimension between the stoppers of the plates) is 131 cm.

2) Exercise comfort, as determined by the power rack manufacturer.
– If the rack width is too large (close to 131 cm), racking the bar can become problematic. Ample clearance is necessary so that the individual exercising does not need to spend a long time aiming and can easily place the barbell back.
– If the rack is too narrow, the clearance for safely placing the barbell is large, but it restricts the exercise itself – not only with an Olympic barbell (e.g., wide grip in bench press) but also during exercises on the pull-up bar.

All FITRON racks and squat stands have an outer dimension between the uprights of 122 cm. This is a width that ensures an ideal balance between exercise comfort and safe barbell racking. This parameter is the same for both series (changing the series changes the inner dimension).

3) Another important factor affecting overall use is the shape and dimensions of the barbell J-hooks (J-cups).
– J-hooks with a sandwich design are usually narrower and therefore safer.

The fundamental aspect of rigs and power racks lies in the holes, which serve the purpose of attaching additional accessories.

Hole Size – is one of the most crucial parameters and affects:
– Load capacity: The rack itself can handle a lot, but the attachments must handle the same load. The majority of accessories are mounted using welded pins – the larger the pin, the higher the load capacity. This is not only due to the obvious larger diameter of the pin itself but mainly because the welded joint is larger and stronger. Welds are often a critical point of failure (especially in inexpensive imported products).
– Compatibility: It’s common for rack attachments to evolve or change over time. A high-quality power rack should be compatible with accessories you might not even be aware of. A well-designed system can ensure ample load capacity for accessories you may not currently possess or may not have even heard of.

Manufacturers may be tempted to create a self-contained “ecosystem” of racks that are exclusive to their specific attachments. FITRON M-Series rigs and racks feature 80×80 uprights and holes with a 20.8mm diameter, designed for 20mm diameter pins. Consequently, they are compatible with accessories from other reputable European brands. The foresight of potential future compatibility makes this an advantageous feature.

Number of Holes – as a general rule, more holes result in greater modularity and customization options for the construction. The quantity of holes on the uprights is not only determined by the density but also the orientation.

Uprights of all FITRON racks have perforations on all four sides, providing extensive modularity. This allows for the adaptation and enhancement of the power cage or rack based on individual preferences. The center-to-center distance (hole density) is only 45mm, so everyone can find the ideal height.

Hole Marking – every 5th hole on the upright is identified by notches on the sides, significantly easing the process of aligning attachments (such as J-hooks) to the same height. For further simplification, M-Series uprights with laser-cut numbers are also available.
